WHAT IS A BATTERY AND ITS TYPES?

 

WHAT IS A BATTERY?:

         A battery is a simple device, which can provide a minimum amount of stored energy based on its capacity. Batteries are everywhere from mobile phones to cars. They play a vital role in humans life as we cannot live without it.

STRUCTURE OF A SIMPLE BATTERY:

     The flow of electrons is called current. A battery mainly consist of three components a negative side (cathode), a positive side(anode) and an electrolyte which is nothing but a chemical that separate the negative and positive side and allow flow of electrons.

TYPES OF BATTERY :

          Based on the charging capacity battery are of two types they are  *rechargeable batteries and
* non-rechargeable batteries.

 

RECHARGEABLE BATTERY:

          A battery which can be recharged using a charger is called rechargeable battery. They are made of different pair of chemicals like NiCd (Nickel Cadmium battery), Li- ion (Lithium-ion battery) they can be used several times by charging. They expensive than non-rechargeable battery.

NON-RECHARGEABLE BATTERY:

        They are the most common batteries which we use in our daily life, they are one time use batteries which cannot recharged. They are made up of different chemicals like Potassium Hydroxide, Zinc, etc.

COMMON BATTERY :

       The batteries which we normally use for flashlights, wall clocks, etc possess 1.2-1.5v         (v-voltage). We may notice the letter "A" in most of the batteries which denotes mainly its size like   AA or double A battery which is larger than AAA or triple A battery which is small and lean. Both have the same voltage as common batteries (1.2v-1.5v) but their output may differ. There are also "C" and "D" type of batteries which are than A and have high voltage.

 

VEHICLE BATTERY:

   They are different from normal batteries. The Vehicle uses batteries called Automotive battery which helps in starting a vehicle's engine until the engine uses chemical power to run. It also helps to run lights, vipers, GPS, etc of a vehicle when the engine is off. These type of batteries are usually rechargeable which charges when the engine runs. If a car is not moved for several days then the battery would die, and we should push our vehicle to charge the battery, or we can use specific chargers. In vehicles mainly lead acid battery is used.

MOBILE BATTERY:

  Mobile batteries are usually rechargeable and charged by specific chargers. We usually hear about the word (mAh) while purchasing a phone which means milliampere- hour which decides the holding capacity of a battery. Higher the (mAh) have higher storing capacity of charge. There are two types of batteries used in modern mobiles Lithium polymer and lithium-ion battery.

 

INVERTERS:

  Inverters commonly use lead acid battery which is rechargeable in nature. In this type of battery electrodes (positive and negative) are dipped into an electrolyte solution which conducts charge from one electrode to another electrode.

ELECTRIC CARS:

         In electric cars rechargeable batteries are used which has high capacity, so it is charged through certain power stations like petrol bunks. An electric car  usually uses Lithium-ion batteries as they are long-lasting in nature.  Tesla model S is the best car to buy in 2020 and 2021.
