Oxygen is one of the most abundant element found in Earth, it belongs to a group of called Chalcogen. Its symbol is "O", its atomic number is 8 which means it contains 8 Protons and 8 Electrons, its mass number is 16 which means it contain 8 protons + 8 Neutrons. About 21% of the Earth's atmosphere (a layer of air surrounding the Earth) is made up of Oxygen. And about 46% of Earth's crust (the land on which we live) is made up of oxygen.
In the year 1772 Swedish Chemist, Carl Wilhelm scheele discovered oxygen by heating mercuric oxide and many other substances and in the year 1777 the term Oxygen was coined by
Antoine Lavoisier from a French word "oxygene" which means acid producer.
Uses:
Oxygen has a wide variety of use from respiration (breathing) to production of many materials like steel, plastic, etc. It is also used as fuel by rockets, it is also used in oxygen therapy which is a treatment carried out by supplying Oxygen into one's body who struggle to breathe and whose oxygen level is very low due to heart failure, lung disease, etc. We humans breath 550 liters of oxygen per day in average. Oxygen is also used by Astronauts in space.
NO OXYGEN FOR JUST 5 SECONDS:
Without Oxygen for 5 seconds we humans another living organisms wouldn't die, as it is a very short period, but the sky will become dark because the sunlight that reaches Earth first interact with the gas in the atmosphere and gives a blue sky but due to lack of oxygen there will be less gas to interact. The buildings and houses made of concrete will get collapsed because oxygen acts as a binding agent. All vehicles using fuel would stop running due to lack of combustion because no oxygen no fire. The most dangerous thing that would happen is that the Earth's crust would eventually collapse as Earth's crust is made up of 46% oxygen.
The only producer of oxygen is plants and trees, if we humans constantly cut down them, One day there will be no Oxygen, and we all will eventually die. So at least to, save our life we should conserve nature.
